Top Tips on Being an Inclusive Employer

FIT & AHEAD have teamed up to enhance employment access and promote workplace inclusivity through Tech Apprenticeships for individuals with disabilities. Discover how to be disability inclusive in your organization with the following tip sheet “Top Tips on Being an Inclusive Employer”.

Tip Number 1: Review Your Recruitment Process

  • Unconscious Bias and Awareness:

Engage all candidates with accessible application processes. Use disability-friendly language, ensure web accessibility, and offer disclosure opportunities.

  • Job Specifications:

Avoid terms that unintentionally discourage disabled applicants, such as “energetic” which could deter those with physical disabilities.

  • Opportunities for Disclosure:

Create clear opportunities for candidates to disclose disabilities at all stages of the process. In communication, emphasize the commitment to equal opportunities and the willingness to provide accommodations for candidates with disabilities.

By following these steps, employers can enhance inclusivity and remove barriers in their recruitment process, promoting equal opportunities for all candidates.
