We have students available for work experience and internship at various points throughout the year. The majority of our internships run over the summer months from June to August with students available for periods between 4 and 12 weeks depending on their course.

We have students from the following disciplines available for unpaid work experience/internships:

• Renewable Energies
• Restaurant / Catering
• Warehousing & Logistics
• Software Development
• Digital Marketing
• Advanced Manufacturing
• Web Development & Social Media
• Retail Sales / Customer Care
• Networking Technologies & Security
• Our students range from QQI Level 5 qualified to QQI Level 8
• FIT partner with PLCs, Training Centres and Institutes of Education

We also have students available for work placement at various stages throughout the year for periods from 2 weeks to 12 weeks from PLC and Training Centre courses, discipline areas and locations around Ireland vary. For current student availability you can contact the Placement Team in FIT.

We have achieved great success over the years, placing students in valuable internships and the results have been mutually beneficial for both student and host company.

Our students benefit greatly from the input of industry partners in our simulated interviews. This gives our students the opportunity to practice their interview skills and receive genuine feedback from professional HR Advisors, Senior Staff Members or Management. These interviews can be conducted on site or on the College Campus, to facilitate busy schedules. This can be a rewarding and motivating experience for your staff who are looking to explore CSR opportunities.

FIT’s success in linking industry to courses relies strongly on our industry partners hosting company visits. This is an opportunity for our students to see what they are learning in the classroom in a real working environment.

These visits have a huge impact on students as they can start to set goals based on opportunities they see on company visits and roles they aspire to.

Our company visits usually take 1 to 2 hours and involve some of the following;

• Overview of the company
• Tour of the company
• Talk by department leaders about a specific area of interest (e.g. Data Centre Manager for a Systems & Networks group)
• Talk by individual employees about ‘a day in the life of’ or their own career path into the company
• Talk by HR or Management regarding CV and Interview tips
• Q&A

Due to our large network of Industry Partners, FIT regularly conducts Skills Audits in a variety of industry areas, most recently ICT and Manufacturing. These audits provide valuable market insight to emerging technologies and future skills needs. Based on these findings FIT has created market-led employment initiatives which focus our training on future market trends.

Past Skills Audits have resulted in the development of initiatives such as the ICT Associate Professional Programme and our industry focused courses in areas such as; Renewable Energies, Virtualisation & Cloud Management, Big Data, Mobile Technologies, Med Tech and Advanced Manufacturing.
