Fastrack to Information Technology (FIT) has announced a new partnership with Salesforce.org, the philanthropic arm of Salesforce, to support the launch of Pre-Tech Apprenticeship programmes in 2019. The innovative pre-tech programmes will create a pathway into formal technology apprenticeships for up to 120 participants this year.
FIT is a not-for-profit industry-led organisation established in 1999. It works to create routes to marketable technical skills for talent that is underrepresented in Ireland’s labour market. To date, over 16,000 job seekers have completed FIT skills development programmes, of which in excess of 12,500 progressed into employment.
Supported by a $100,000 grant from Salesforce.org, FIT have created a course that provides skills sampling in Network Engineering, Software Development, Cybersecurity and Project Management in preparation for successful progression and participation in a Tech Apprenticeship. The courses will commence in Summer 2019 and will be delivered by providing partners, the Education and Training Boards. As part of FIT’s commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion, 90% of participants will come from underserved communities, with 30% identifying as female.
George Ryan, COO of FIT, said “Apprenticeships are an exciting and proven way to grow and develop talent and are highly rated by employers. Designed by industry groups, apprenticeships are opening doors to rewarding careers, with the learning grounded in the practical experience of employment. We are delighted to be supported by Salesforce.org in the creation of this new program, which will serve as a feeder to Tech Apprenticeships in Ireland. Together we are helping more people to discover their talents through training; a concept at the heart of the national apprenticeship system.”
Ebony Frelix Beckwith, EVP & Chief Philanthropy Officer of Salesforce.org said, “Equality is a core value at Salesforce; we believe that business has a responsibility to drive equality for all. As the tech industry continues to grow in Ireland, FIT’s programme will help ensure that young people of all backgrounds have access to apprenticeship training that can kick start exciting careers in technology. We are delighted to be supporting such a meaningful initiative.”
