Ballina VTOS Accounting Technician Year 2

Course Aim

The aim of the programme is to provide candidates with expertise, experience and knowledge in accounting, in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.

Accounting Technicians will possess the knowledge, skills and competencies to either work on their own or alongside professional accountants. The programme has been designed to provide business with personnel who are skilled in accounting techniques.

Progression

On successful completion of Year 2 students may become Affiliate Members of Accounting Technicians Ireland allowing them to maintain their professional affiliation while they complete the work experience requirement of the Diploma. Further Studies The course is structured to maximise exemptions with leading professional bodies such as our partner, Chartered Accountants Ireland; the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA); the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA); and the Institute of Incorporated Public Accountants (IIPA).

Requirements

• Education: School leavers should have a Leaving Certificate with pass grades in: 5 Ordinary level subjects (including English and Maths/Accountancy) 2 Ordinary level and 2 Higher level subjects (including English and Maths or Accountancy Applied Leaving Certificate applicants should contact the Student Services Team on Tele. 01-6498180 for further information.
• Aptitude: Good verbal and written communication skills are desirable. Accuracy in the use of numbers. Appropriate aptitude tests may be applied.
• Previous Experience: Previous experience in book-keeping and / or accountancy desirable. Experience in using web based learning is an advantage.
