Concerned about rising college costs? Discover a debt-free route to a tech career

Recent reports state that students attending third-level education in Ireland may be facing a rise in college fees this academic year. In previous years, the student contribution has been reduced as a part of the “cost-of-living” packages accompanying the budget. However, Micheál Martin says there may not be a one-off cost-of-living payment again this year to reduce cost for students.

For those who are exploring a career in the tech sector, there is an alternative route to gaining qualifications in Cybersecurity, Software Development, Computer Networking and Data Analytics without paying tuition fees.

A Smarter Pathway into Tech

FIT’s Tech Apprenticeships are a two-year programme, which combines college-based and workplace learning. There are currently programmes in three key areas: Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, and Software Development, with a new Data Analytics programme set to launch Autumn 2025 (subject to QQI validation).

No Tuition Fees

When choosing a FIT Tech Apprenticeship, one of the biggest advantages is there are no tuition fees. Training is fully government funded for the entire two-year programme, so students don’t have to worry about surprise fee increases or student loans.

Instead, tech apprentices are getting paid to learn. From day one, they earn a salary, helping with living expenses, travel and accommodation, rather than adding to the debt. Tech Apprentices earn a minimum of €312 weekly in Year 1, and a minimum of €408 weekly in Year 2, giving them financial independence over the two years.

Ready to get started?

If you want to start a career in tech without tuition fees, with real-world experience from day one, a FIT Tech Apprenticeship could be the right choice for you.

We have multiple intakes remaining for September and October this year, including Computer Networking in Cork, Cybersecurity in Kerry and an all-female Software Development accepting applicants in Dublin and surrounding counties. Apply now and start building your future.
