Fastrack into Information Technology (FIT) is taking a proactive step in the Consumer Electronics space that aims to address the shortage of Consumer Electronics Service & Repair Technicians in Ireland through the development & implementation of a ‘Consumer Electronics Service & Repair Technician’ training programme, an innovative first of its kind in Ireland.
This new programme will provide a curriculum template for essential training to combat the skills gap and potentially align with future ‘right to repair’ laws. This programme seeks to bolster environmental sustainability while addressing the scarcity of skilled workers by aligning with multiple features of the circular economy.
This pilot aligns itself with multiple features of the circular economy including:
FIT is endeavouring to solve the current challenge for the Consumer Electronics sector, namely the lack of Consumer Electronic Service Technicians and limited training and career pathway opportunities to encourage new recruits into the sector. FIT with the support of recognised industry partners is developing and initiating the first repair programme to address the issue of Consumer Electronics preventive maintenance, repair & reuse in Ireland and work to support a more circular and sustainable economy.
