Bridging the Green Digital Skills gap in Transport

The European transport sector is undergoing a massive green transformation, but a critical skills gap is holding back progress. European startups and SMEs, the drivers of innovation, often lack access to the advanced digital skills in AI and HPC needed to accelerate their R&D and compete with US and Chinese counterparts.

What is GreenShift?

GreenShift is a European initiative developing a Joint Master’s programme and flexible training modules focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) for green digital innovation in the transport sector. The programme responds to the growing need for advanced digital skills that can be applied to real challenges in transport, mobility, and urban systems, as the sector works to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and adapt to new technological demands. By strengthening these skills across Europe, GreenShift supports the development of smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable transport systems.

What will GreenShift offer and who is it for?

GreenShift is developing a flexible learning pathway that will include a European Joint Master’s programme, standalone modules, and micro-credentials, together with hands-on activities such as bootcamps, hackathons, and industry training. The courses are designed around real transport and mobility challenges, helping learners apply AI and HPC to practical problems in transport systems.

GreenShift is designed for professionals, graduates, start-ups, companies, and public authorities working in transport, mobility, engineering, data science, and digital technologies. It is intended for anyone who wants to use advanced computing, AI, and data-driven methods to develop more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable transport solutions.

Project Consortium

Each of the project partners has been selected for their expertise and experience in delivering academic and vocational training programmes in HPC and AI, or their specific technical knowledge and capacity to contribute to a key element of the master’s programme.

At FIT, our mission is to promote an inclusive and sustainable smart economy, and GreenShift strengthens that mission by developing job-ready AI and HPC skills for green digital innovation in transport and logistics. We joined the project to help build the sector’s capacity and grow the talent pipeline further so that more people can access emerging careers and organisations can accelerate decarbonisation.
