We are delighted to share that FIT has been awarded the Techies Go Green Sustainability Award at the Tech Excellence Awards, which took place on the 14th of May 2026.
This recognition marks an important milestone for the organisation and reflects the strong progress being made across our sustainability-focused programmes – particularly through our work on the GreenShift project and our growing portfolio of Circular Economy initiatives.
Delivering Impact Through Skills and Sustainability
At FIT, sustainability is not a standalone goal – it is embedded in how we design and deliver our programmes. A key part of this work has been addressing one of Ireland’s most pressing challenges: the shortage of skilled professionals in the repair workforce. Through industry-aligned training developed in partnership with employers, FIT is helping to rebuild this critical skills pipeline.
Supporting the Circular Economy
Our Circular Economy initiatives continue to demonstrate tangible environmental impact. By promoting repair, reuse, and skills development, these programmes help reduce unnecessary waste and extend the lifecycle of everyday products.
Working closely with industry partners and national stakeholders, FIT is contributing to broader ecosystem efforts, including collaborations linked to:
- WEEE Ireland’s Circular Economy Strategy
- The Circular Economy Innovation Grant Scheme
- The CIRCULÉIRE Innovation Fund
These partnerships are helping to accelerate Ireland’s transition towards a more circular and sustainable economy.
Driving Innovation Through GreenShift
FIT’s role in the GreenShift project further highlights our contribution at a European level. Through this initiative, we are helping to develop the skills needed to support decarbonisation, particularly in areas such as transport and emerging digital technologies.
GreenShift demonstrates FIT’s ability to operate at scale – combining innovation, training, and collaboration to support Europe’s broader climate ambitions.
Shaping the Future of Skills and Sustainability
This award recognises FIT’s continued commitment to delivering impactful, sustainable solutions through collaboration with industry partners, stakeholders, and learners. It demonstrates the value of combining skills development, innovation, and partnership to support Ireland’s transition to a more sustainable economy.
As FIT continues to expand its work in sustainability and the circular economy, this achievement marks an important milestone in our ongoing journey.
FIT is not preparing for a green future – we’re building it. 🌱
