Course Aim

VTOS Sligo offer learners an opportunity to learn the subject areas of Irish culture, folklore and mythology, local history, wildlife, tourism and the arts. It is ideally suited to mature students (over 21 and in receipt of a DEASP payment) who wish to progress to further studies in MSLETB, ATU Sligo or elsewhere or to find employment within the tourism industry. This course prides itself in motivating students to achieve their individual goals.
This dynamic course gives learners the opportunity to participate in field trips to various tourism providers across the region, visiting national and local monuments; important archaeological sites; museums, libraries and archives; and to engage in fun tourism activities in Sligo. It allows students to meet real life tourism entrepreneurs and to gain effective practical experience in the field.

VTOS Sligo students also have the option of studying a European language (currently French, Irish or Spanish on offer).

Please note: Training Allowance applies, additional allowances may also apply (e.g. travel, fuel, food) depending on learner circumstances.

Progression

Learning Outcomes On completion of this programme learners will have acquired a broad range of personal skills which will enable personal development and active citizenship, and/or to progress to employment and/or further education or training.

Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative.
