Get Online Week 2017


Get Online Week is an annual pan-European campaign to engage and empower people to use technology and the Internet. Inspired by the campaign with the same name of UK Online Centres, European Get Online Week first ran in 2010 and has reached over 900,000 people in 7 years. Our National partners – digital heroes organise and promote training sessions, workshops, staff exchanges, job opportunities, study visits along with many other activities.

This year’s campaign has                                                                

  • 26 national partners involving
  • 4,600 local partners to reach
  • 72,000 Europeans

  • Cybersecurity: use technology and the internet safely, manage your (digital) identity
  • eServices: learn to keep up with eServices (eGovernment, eBanking, eHealth, eCommerce)

Events in Ireland

We will be running an number of activities during the week with FIT promoting GOW17 in public areas along with training in our partner Telecentres throughout the country. We have also partnered this year with Bank of Ireland who will be running an number of events through Age Action and Coderdojo about helping getting on-liners to interact with online banking and also teaching classes on youth and entrepreneurship.  Check out the press release from Bank of Ireland 

‘Get Online for work, for leisure, for life!’


There will be ‘Getting Citizens Online’ training classes taking place nationally.  Getting Citizens Online is a short training programme to encourage non-liners become on-liners. Non-liners are taught how to use the internet to access eServices  such as eBanking, eGovernment etc. for more information follow the link.

FIT will be in Cabra library in the afternoon giving out information about how to get online and other courses. Come Visit us. Bank of Ireland will have Digital Arrow school visits – Swords, Tullow, Urlingford. There will also be an ISAX Alumni Ingenuity meeting – Wednesday 6pm-8pm, BOI Grand Canal, along with Workbench in Galway – Fireside Chat with Aoibheann O’ Brien, Foodcloud Co-founder.


FIT will be in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre  giving out information about how to get online and other courses to help unemployed people upskill in IT. Please come over and talk to us at our stand. Bank of Ireland will have Digital Arrow visits – Bizworld, Leixlip, Raheny Business Breakfast, Oldcastle school visit, Oldcastle Agri evening.


FIT will be in Cabra Library in the afternoon again giving out information about GOW17 along with the ‘Getting Citizens Online programme’ along with information about other IT programmes including our IT apprenticeship come visit us. Bank of Ireland will have Digital Arrow school visits – Bizworld Leixlip, Seniors Academy Stillorgan Library. Coderdojo events will take place in Mary’s Primary School, Enfield, and Our Lady’s Grove, Goatstown along with Scoil Mhuire in Carrick on Shannon.

I-Linc – join I-Linc to gain access to lots of free resources and information about digital skills for all. This is an excellent resource for teachers and trainers.
