Title: Females in Technology Champion (FIT Champion)

Reporting To: Operations Manager

General Summary:

The Females in Technology Champion – primary role will be to encourage and assist more females to consider and pursue careers in the tech and related sectors.  The outreach and engagement strategies  adopted by the Females in Technology Champion will range from Junior Cert Level students to female’s job seekers pursuing employment to women in the workplace wishing to reskill or change their career paths.  Attention will also be given to the promotion of policies and provision that redress the gender imbalance with regard to female workforce participation and career progression in tech related sectors through:

  • Providing training, policy and support to key stakeholder’s, be they employers, education and training providers, policy makers or advocates around gender specific approaches to effectively engaging and enabling females pursue tech careers.
  • Engaging with education and training institutions to showcase and promote the range of rewarding and fulfilling training opportunities readily accessible to women considering tech related sectors.
  • To engage and support women interests groups at national, regional and local level to raise awareness of the careers prospects and quality employment opportunities readily available in a thriving tech sector.
  • To demonstrate how tech careers can facilitate work-life balance – with many roles providing opportunities for flexible hours and opportunities to work remotely.
  • Raising awareness of gender specific needs of women with regard to access and take-up of education, training and career progression opportunities
  • To promote the range of progression pathways (full-time, part-time, flexible, and online) to quality tech careers from across the spectrum of further and higher education (including dual-education, ‘earn and learn’ opportunities that can enhance female participation rates.
  • To demonstrate that many career opportunities in the tech sector are not desk bound, but rather require multi-disciplinary team players who are highly communicative, problem solvers, creative and entrepreneurial.
  • To exhibit that tech careers can have a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of individuals as well as the economy

Duties and Responsibilities:

Training, Engagement and Mentoring

Design and deliver induction training to key stakeholders (employers, education and training providers and career guidance specialists)  which equips them with the confidence and knowledge to engage and support women to explore and pursue tech careers and related employment opportunities.

To identify and mentor Female Tech Champions – who can showcase the fulfilling opportunities and career benefits accessible to females in technology.

Develop consultation and learning on gender inclusion issues through shared stakeholder joint initiatives.

Engaging Women

Engage with women in custody with entrenched multiple needs; supporting them in accessing and transitioning to the WY-FI Women’s Champions navigators in the community.

Engage regularly with private, public and voluntary sector partner agencies to develop gender.

Proactively Develop, Promote and Implement the FIT2 Project

Develop, promote and implement FITs gender specific tech initiative entitled – FIT2 – Female in Technology programme with its ultimate goal of achieving, over-time, gender balance in the     tech and related sectors workforce.

Work closely with Research, Education and Training Institution and Advocates – promoting equity and gender balance in employment and career opportunities.

To promote and support the development of diversity initiatives within tech companies

Work with and supervise Volunteer/Peers Mentors to support female beneficiaries.

Promote and support policies on equality and diversity in the workplace.

 

Essential Requirements:

Qualifications

Certificate / Diploma / Degree or equivalent in HR, IT / Technical Training, Career Guidance or Women’s Studies

Experience

Experience of designing and delivery of Workshops and or Training sessions.

Experience of building collaborative relationships stakeholders / multiple agencies.

1 year experience of supporting females pursue career opportunities and/or involved in tech training development or delivery of relevant services.

Knowledge and Skills

Proven ability to design and deliver training sessions.

Excellent communication skills-written and verbal, able to present complex information in understandable formats.

Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively to meet deadline, is methodical and organised.

 Other attributes

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Willingness to work flexibly including out of office hours where necessary.

Full driving license and access to own transport.
