About FIT

FIT (Fastrack into Information Technology) is an industry initiative aimed at enabling marginalised job seekers access new employment opportunities through the acquisition of ICT skills. FIT also promotes digital inclusion initiatives which enable individuals become proficient in information technologies. As part of its remit FIT designs market-led ICT curricula, initiates ICT training programmes and develops progression pathways for its client group and offers a recruitment service to industry. FIT’s activities are funded through a combination of private sector support, government funding and EU Programme Funds.

Established in 1999, FIT is a limited company and registered charity. The Board of FIT comprises of representatives from leading international and indigenous companies. Key partners include government departments, education and training providers and local development agencies.

Title:

Females in Technology Champion (FIT Champion)

Reporting To: Operations Manager

General Summary:

The Females in Technology Champion – primary role will be to encourage and assist more females to consider and pursue careers in the tech and related sectors.  The outreach and engagement strategies  adopted by the Females in Technology Champion will range from Junior Cert Level students to female’s job seekers pursuing employment to women in the workplace wishing to reskill or change their career paths.  Attention will also be given to the promotion of policies and provision that redress the gender imbalance with regard to female workforce participation and career progression in tech related sectors through:

  • Providing training, policy and support to key stakeholder’s, be they employers, education and training providers, policy makers or advocates around gender specific approaches to effectively engaging and enabling females pursue tech careers.
  • Engaging with education and training institutions to showcase and promote the range of rewarding and fulfilling training opportunities readily accessible to women considering tech related sectors.
  • To engage and support women interests groups at national, regional and local level to raise awareness of the careers prospects and quality employment opportunities readily available in a thriving tech sector.
  • To demonstrate how tech careers can facilitate work-life balance – with many roles providing opportunities for flexible hours and opportunities to work remotely.
  • Raising awareness of gender specific needs of women with regard to access and take-up of education, training and career progression opportunities
  • To promote the range of progression pathways (full-time, part-time, flexible, and online) to quality tech careers from across the spectrum of further and higher education (including dual-education, ‘earn and learn’ opportunities that can enhance female participation rates.
  • To demonstrate that many career opportunities in the tech sector are not desk bound, but rather require multi-disciplinary team players who are highly communicative, problem solvers, creative and entrepreneurial.
  • To exhibit that tech careers can have a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of individuals as well as the economy

Duties and Responsibilities:

Training, Engagement and Mentoring

Design and deliver induction training to key stakeholders (employers, education and training providers and career guidance specialists)  which equips them with the confidence and knowledge to engage and support women to explore and pursue tech careers and related employment opportunities.

To identify and mentor Female Tech Champions – who can showcase the fulfilling opportunities and career benefits accessible to females in technology.

Develop consultation and learning on gender inclusion issues through shared stakeholder joint initiatives.

Engaging Women

Engage with women in custody with entrenched multiple needs; supporting them in accessing and transitioning to the WY-FI Women’s Champions navigators in the community.

Engage regularly with private, public and voluntary sector partner agencies to develop gender.

Proactively Develop, Promote and Implement the FIT2 Project

Develop, promote and implement FITs gender specific tech initiative entitled – FIT2 – Female in Technology programme with its ultimate goal of achieving, over-time, gender balance in the     tech and related sectors workforce.

Work closely with Research, Education and Training Institution and Advocates – promoting equity and gender balance in employment and career opportunities.

To promote and support the development of diversity initiatives within tech companies

Work with and supervise Volunteer/Peers Mentors to support female beneficiaries.

Promote and support policies on equality and diversity in the workplace.

 

Essential Requirements:

Qualifications

Certificate / Diploma / Degree or equivalent in HR, IT / Technical Training, Career Guidance or Women’s Studies

Experience

Experience of designing and delivery of Workshops and or Training sessions.

Experience of building collaborative relationships stakeholders / multiple agencies.

1 year experience of supporting females pursue career opportunities and/or involved in tech training development or delivery of relevant services.

Knowledge and Skills

Proven ability to design and deliver training sessions.

Excellent communication skills-written and verbal, able to present complex information in understandable formats.

Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively to meet deadline, is methodical and organised.

 Other attributes

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Willingness to work flexibly including out of office hours where necessary.

Full driving license and access to own transport.

Title: Training & Employment Officer (TEO)

Reporting To: Operations Manager and Senior TEO
General Summary:
The main role of the Training & Employment Officer (TEO) is to oversee the vocational / skills training and career development and mentoring of FIT participants. The TEO will be the first point of contact for FIT students and will monitor their progress while participating on FIT supported programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment of Trainees for Courses

    This process involves holding information sessions in colleges/ training centres, processing applications, administering aptitude assessments and assisting the Colleges/ training centres with the interview / selection process.

  • Induction & Registration of FIT students

    The TEO will carry out registration and induction for each participant in accordance with FIT Procedures.

  • Online Training & Development Resources

    Each FIT student can access online Training & Development Resources such as Skillport. The TEO will register and induct learners in the use of all online training resources.

  • Total Quality Management (TQM) of FIT Programmes

    The TEO will TQM FIT supported programmes and the effective progression of learners from recruitment, through training to the attainment of certification and placement in industry. In this regard he/she will monitor the overall performance of participants while on FIT programmes and will ensure that the training provision and function adhere to programme criteria, certification requirements and professional standards.

  • Company Interaction

    The TEO will, through interaction with companies organise and facilitate company visits for all FIT students relating to their course caseload and where necessary support placement activities.

  • Career Progression and Employment Strategies

    The TEO supports career progression activities and employment strategies for all FIT participants through career advice, CV workshops, interview techniques, mock interviews, recruitment support etc. in preparation for internship/ employment and progression opportunities.

  • Ongoing Mentoring Supports

    The TEO with the support of the FIT Placement Team will assist graduates of FIT supported programmes secure internship and /or job placement opportunities as appropriate at the end of their course. Ongoing mentoring supports will be provided to FIT graduates for a period of up to three years after completion of a FIT programme. The TEO will continuously monitor the performance and progression of FIT graduates while on internship and in job placement and secure regular feedback from participants and companies during the mentoring period.

To support/engage with and actively assist ETB / FE providers operationalise FIT supported programmes at a local level – providing information and guidance on all aspects from training programme identification, to recruitment and selection, to quality auditing and performance appraisal.

Essential Requirements:

  • Full Clean Driving Licence

  • A third level qualification in business, education or career guidance is desirable but not essential.

Title: Projects Coordinator

Overview

Works with internal and external parties to organise the various components needed to initiate, run and conclude projects and programmes initiated by FIT Ltd. Reporting to the FIT

  • Duties & Responsibilities
    Develop programme proposals in line with the mission, goals and objectives of FIT. Complete related application forms and procedures and seek programme funding from the relevant national or international sources.
  • Develop partnerships with other organisations both nationally and internationally to support existing and new indigenous, EU and international programmes /project applications and their effective implementation.
  • Implement funded programmes by developing action plans, carrying out project related activities and co-ordinating the activities of project partners, staff and contractors.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned programme targets are achieved and modifying actions as required on an ongoing basis to that end. Responsible for providing status reports and other required information to FIT Management and Managing Authorities.
  • Promote the funded programmes / projects nationally and internationally to facilitate dissemination and possible future funding channels which can further support the beneficiaries and target groups generally.
  • Develop and maintain effective communications and a flow of information with the Managing Authorities (e.g. Government Dept / Agency, National Agency, EU etc.). Maintain programme records and assist in the preparation of required programme status reports.
  • Develop an understanding of the rules and protocols that relate to different funding providers and interface with the relevant staff in the Managing Authorities.
  • Partake in European project meetings and conferences as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A third level qualification demonstrating a strong analytical and academic ability e.g. II.1 level primary degree, masters qualification, research or PhD related activity.
  • 2 or more years work experience in design and implementation of developmental / educational programmes involving multi-stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • Familiarity with multi-partner projects including hands on experience of needs analysis, planning, scheduling and evaluating outcomes. Knowledge in the field of lifelong learning, ICT and digital inclusion e.g. policy, practice, trends and issues.
  • Requires excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in IT including Microsoft office suite, web/online tools & project management software. Organised and disciplined approach to managing personal workflow.
  • Capacity to present FIT achievements and proposals in a variety of fora gaining the interest and commitment of potential funders, partners and collaborators.
  • Genuine interest and belief in the process of helping people to enhance their lives and careers through training and education. Experience of voluntary work or a placement in disadvantaged communities or sectors would be of value.

Title: Placement Officer

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Role & Context

Key operational responsibility for the delivery of employer facing services for FIT – with regard to the training, employment and progression of FIT participants. Tasked with establishing industry collaborations and initiatives that enhance FIT’s ability to engage with employers in order to assist job seekers access demand-led training with a view to progressing into mainstream employment opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To develop a wide range of qualitative contacts with industry / employers which will support the implementation of FIT’s Operation Plan with regard to the development of curriculum, mentoring supports and the placement services to FIT participants.
  • To promote FIT’s industry programmes and develop other opportunities to work with employers on pre-recruitment activities which promote opportunities for FIT client to progress into employment.
  • Facilitating a private sector perspective in the compilation of employability strategies / policy and programme development.
  • Development and maintenance of an employer database of client companies availing of FIT Internship and Recruitment services. This will include generating recruitment leads and circulation of vacancies through agreed protocols of communication.
  • Identification of ICT / technology related recruitment needs and skills shortages across sectors.
  • Providing job matching supports to job ready clients following progression from FIT programmes.
  • Develop and deliver an Employment Support Programmes that assist employers meet their recruitment / productivity needs.
  • Devise, implement and monitor a range of marketing and promotional activities and events directed at employers in the development of FIT as a strategic recruitment conduit for employers.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required.

Title: ICT Associate Professional – Business Development Executive

Reporting to: CEO

Role & Context

Primary responsibility: supporting the successful introduction, promotion and deployment of FIT ICT Associate Professional Programme, a unique IT Apprenticeship initiative being piloted by FIT in collaboration with SOLAS, Education and Training Boards, ETBI, ICT Ireland and the wider tech sector. Key performance indicators will be the effective engagement of tech companies leading to the securement of industry sponsors for an initial 200 candidate wishing to pursue a dual-education route (college-based training combined with work-based learning) to a professional career in the sector.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development
  •  Widely promote and disseminate the concept and benefits of ICT Associate Professional to technology companies.
  • Identify and engage IT across Ireland to become sponsors of FIT ICT Associate Professional Programme which is a two year dual education initiative.
  • Help develop and execute an effective campaign to encourage companies to engage and participate
  • Promote the FIT Associate Professional Programme and secure agreement from companies to sponsor students on the programme.
  • Where necessary Cold call companies and identify the hiring manager and HR contact within each company.
  • Attend industry partner meetings, networking events and industry events.
  • Actively approach and collaborate with Industry Representative Bodies educating them on the Associate Professional concept.
  • Understand the business sector of prospective partners and their specific resourcing requirements.
Marketing
  • Plan and prepare presentations to both prospective and established industry partners.
  • Develop marketing literature which best promotes FIT service offering specifically in relation to ICT Associate Professional.
  • Supporting the marketing and promotional to ICT Associate to potential candidates
    Business Relationship Management
  • Co-ordinate the host company involvement in the recruitment process.
  • Manage and assist industry partners to ensure they fulfil programme requirements and operating procedures of the Associate Professional Programme.
    Administration
  • Update the database with all new contacts, business details and their key requirements.
  • Provide weekly status report on new business and pipeline activity
    Research & Evaluation
  • Research market trends and update FIT management team on a regular basis with a view to influencing changes to FIT supports, curricula, etc.
  • Evaluate the programme at the end of each semester and provide feedback/make recommendations to the FIT management team on opportunities to improve the programme.
  • Commitment to owning, developing and improving the ICT Associate Professional programme and work in conjunction with FIT management to proactively identify challenges and threats which may have a negative impact on programme success.
